Question

Question: 8 (i)

13 / 26

If the temperature of a liquid can be measured in Kelvin units as x K and in Fahrenheit units is y °F, the relation between the two systems of measurement of temperature is given by the linear equation y = \dfrac{9}{5}(x - 273) + 32

(i) Find the temperature of the liquid in Fahrenheit if the temperature of the liquid is 313 K.

Answer

1
Substitute x = 313 into the temperature conversion relation and simplify.
\text{y = $\dfrac{9}{5}({color:#2E2EFF}313{/color} - 273) + 32$}
⇒
\text{ $y = \dfrac{9}{5} × 40 + 32$}
⇒
$y = 9 × 8 + 32$
⇒
$y = 72 + 32$
⇒
$y = 104$
2
Write the temperature in Fahrenheit.
\textbf{Answer: $104\,^{\circ}F$}
Sponsored320 x 50
